LAPUTA
Future-proofing Korean commuter towns
Minseong Kim
Laputa is a place where the 'un-fits' of the aging commuter towns can find their own place above the strictly defined city dominated by social norms, real estate and automobiles. People can create their own human-scale space, opening doors for completely new activities to happen. Laputa serves its function as an interactive archive for the city, collecting fragments of the city that were not part of the city's masterplan. With Laputa as the anchor facility for the rapidly changing urban lifestyle, commuter towns can prepare for its future as a 'compact city' where urban living and economy does not wholly depend on downtown cores, making the community more resilient and inclusive.
